Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Leila De Lima was Guest of Honor during the Barangay Justice System Seminar held Oct. 7, 2015 at the Activity Area of the New Tanay Municipal Hall.
IBP National President Atty. Rosario Setias-Reyes and IBP Southern Luzon Region Chief Atty. Bienvenido Somera also attended the event.
Themed “Katarungang Pambarangay, Katuwang Natin, Hane!’, the seminar brought together barangay officials of the municipality, as well as of neighboring towns.
Local chief executives of Pililla, Baras, Jalajala, and Teresa also graced the event organized by the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Rizal Chapter and the Municipality of Tanay under Hon. Rafael Tanjuatco.
In her speech, Sec. De Lima stressed the importance of Katarungang Pambarangay in easing the heavy load of the DOJ.
She clarified that the program is not to undermine the capability of the DOJ but to involve the local elected officials in ensuring the delivery of basic judicial services to the people.
During the event, Sec. De Lima bared her intention to run for the Senate. She also disclosed that she will hand her resignation to President Benigno Simeon Aquino III the same day.
Meanwhile, the Secretary had a photo-op and interview with members of Tanay Writers’ Club, which is composed mostly of high school student writers.
The Municipal Legal Officer Atty. Amadeo Fulgado and Liga ng Barangay President Hon. Ruel Estrella co-sponsored the seminar.
