As part of the municipality’s drive to improve the literacy of its constituents, the local government of Tanay under Hon. Rafael Tanjuatco donated on May 24 two lots to DepEd Rizal represented by Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Marites Ibañez.

The lots, one measuring 25,226 square meters and another covering 17,612 square meters, were intended for the construction of Sampaloc National High School – Madilaydilay Annex and Madilaydilay Elementary School, respectively.

Hon. Jaime Vista, Vice Mayor, Dr. Gabriel Piguing, Municipal Administrator, Mr. Adorable Sunga, MPDO, Ms. Nelia Baladad, Principal of Pinagsabiran and Madilaydilay Elementary School, as well as select teachers were also present during the signing of Deeds of Donation between LGU Tanay and DepEd Rizal.

For her part, Dr. Ibañez expressed her deep gratitude on behalf of DepEd Rizal for the local government’s donation. She gave assurance that once the school buildings were built, they will ensure that the buildings will be properly used and maintained.

Quality education for all

LGU Tanay, recipient of the 2014 National Literacy Awards Search for Outstanding Local Government Unit (Class A Municipality) – Region 4a, has been aggressively pushing for the establishment of public elementary and high schools in various parts of the municipality.

Aside from the local government’s lot donations, it has likewise funded the construction of school buildings in its poblacion and upland barangays.

Mayor Tanjuatco, Chair of the Local School Board, has accordingly exhausted all possible efforts to ensure that students won’t have to travel far just to attend school. The local chief executive’s goal is to have at least one elementary and one high school in every barangay, particularly in Tanay’s hinterlands.

Additionally, the LGU has been implementing programs that have benefitted jail inmates, in-school and out-of-school-youth, Muslim students, Indigenous Peoples, and PWDs.

Mayor Rafael Tanjuatco, in his third and final term of office, has long expressed his wish to leave behind a legacy that anchors on providing quality education for all sectors of the society.

Accordingly, Mayor Tanjuatco’s mantra: “A literate community creates a dynamic economy”, has served well for the LGU and the beneficiaries of its various education-centered programs and projects.
