Tanay recently won three awards in various categories of the 2016 Regional Gawad Kalasag Search for Excellence in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Humanitarian Assistance.
The awarding rites were held at the Development Academy of the Philippines in Tagaytay City with Usec. Ricardo B. Jalad, OCD Administrator and NDRRMC Executive Director as Guest of Honor and Speaker.
Tanay National High School (Tanahis) under Mrs. Elena V. Bernardo bested all entries from the Calabarzon to emerge as First Place winner in the Best Public School - Urban category.
Tanahis reportedly impressed members of the Regional Selection Committee for its exemplary DRRM programs and projects which were fully supported by LGU Tanay and Plan Philippines under Project Director Ponciano B. Arcega, Jr.
Meanwhile, Tanay Mountaineers, Inc. led by Founding Chairman Engr. Carlos E. Inofre, Jr won its third First Place award in the Best Volunteer Organization category for its various contributions to the municipality’s DRRM initiatives.
With it, Tanay Mountaineers, Inc. was also given the Hall of Fame nod for sustaining its DRRM activities and winning in its category for three straight years.
Finally, the Tanay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) led by Mayor Rex Manuel C. Tanjuatco won Second Place in Best LDRRM Council, 1st to 3rd Class Municipality category.
Tanay MDRRMC was cited for its continued intensive disaster prevention and mitigation programs and inclusive disaster preparedness initiatives.
In their speeches, Usec. Jalad and RDRRMC Chairperson and OCD 4a Regional Director Vicente F. Tomazar recognized the vital roles of local DRRM councils, schools, volunteer rescue groups, and private organizations in the overall DRRM efforts of the national government.
The two also lauded all the awardees for their exemplary programs and projects that aim to ultimately create disaster resilient communities.
