The Municipal Government of Tanay, Rizal just won the 2016 Outstanding Local Government Unit under Municipal Level (Class A category) of the 2016 National Literacy Awards for its comprehensive and inclusive literacy programs and projects.
The awarding rites were held December 8 at the Seameo-Innotech in Diliman, Quezon City led by Usec. Dina S. Ocampo, Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction and Chairperson of the Literacy Coordinating Council.
Vice Mayor Jaime B. Vista, HRM Officer Mr. Richard Angel M. Arboleda, IMS staff Mike Anthony B. Catuira, and MPDO personnel Arbell Joy B. Marciales received the award on behalf of Hon. Rex Manuel C. Tanjuatco, Municipal Mayor.
Tanay was lauded by the National Selection Committee for its literacy programs that benefited numerous youth, Muslims, indigenous peoples, LGU employees, jail inmates, teachers and students, and other local sectors. It was also cited for the high percentage of literate constituents, which is among the top indicators of the effectiveness of its various literacy programs and projects.
The municipalities of Bacnotan, La Union, Daet, Camarines Sur, Marilao, Bulacan, and San Mateo, Isabela completed the second to fifth places of the Outstanding Local Government Unit Municipal Level, Class A category.
