For the third consecutive time, the Municipal Government of Tanay, Rizal was adjudged as the Most Outstanding Local Government Unit (LGU) - Class A Municipality category, during the awarding rites of the 2018 National Literacy Awards - Regional Level - Search for Outstanding LGUs held last August 14, 2018 in Cainta, Rizal. The search is being held every two years and Tanay was also the 2014 and 2016 regional winner in the same category.
Tanay’s win automatically qualified it to the National Level, with initial assessment of the selection committee placing Tanay in the Top 5 among all entries throughout the country.
The local government of Tanay has been implementing programs that have benefitted in-school and out-of-school youth, ALS learners, persons with disability, jail inmates, senior citizens, women, indigenous peoples (IPs), farmers, children at risk, entrepreneurs and the community.
Among the various literacy programs that Tanay has been vigorously implementing are Karunungan ng mga Katutubo sa Bulubundukin ng Tanay (KABULTAN), KalyeRunungan, Continuing Education Program for ALS learners, Bigay Kinabukasan sa Selda and Panitikan Ugnayan Gawain Alituntunin ng Dumagat Remontado (PUGAD) project.
There are also trainings conducted by the municipality, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Trainings, Technical skills education (TESDA), sustainable farm field school, all year round tour guide training and trainings for IPs to serve as community health workers.
Mayor Rex Manuel Tanjuatco, only in his first term of office, is strongly committed in providing quality education for all sectors of the society most especially for those in the far-flung areas of Tanay.
Further, the municipality supports a school program for the Muslim (Madrasah), it has also opened several new schools outside the poblacion and, under a Memorandum of Agreement with the University of Rizal System, founded the construction of an annex of the university at the Tanay town proper.
In view, Mayor Tanjuatco’s guiding principle that “A literate citizenry is the key to a progressive community”, has served well the municipality and the beneficiaries of its various education-centered programs and projects.
