BASURAFFLE 2 1

Garbage problem is still one of the most serious and yet critical social issues prevailing not only in the Poblacion area but also in the rural areas. The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office design various strategies in confronting this issues such as massive Information, Education and Communication Campaign (IEC) strategies; this include Basura Mo, Palit Gamit Eskwela Program wherein students will encourage to do segregation and separate the recyclable materials and convert those items such as newspaper, cans, PET bottles, etc. into basic school supplies such as writing pad, notebook, pencil, ballpen, crayons, sharpener using a point system methodology; weekly mass dance wherein participants are required to bring any recyclable materials as their registration/entry, the Basura Monster; a visual presentation targeting day care pupils teaching them the proper values and the importance of waste segregation, solid waste symposium for elementary, high school and college students and even the capacity building customized and specifically design for the members of Brgy Solid Waste Management Committees.

Business establishments also did their share by way of helping in the information dissemination/ distribution of leaflets showing the segregation and collection schedule of the municipality while the environment office strictly enforce the law and existing ordinances on solid waste through the deployment of the environmental police within the strategic places of the municipality like the market, parks, main roads and in the central business area.

And now in order to continuously implement the essence and values of segregation scheme and help alleviate poverty and ensure quality education, this office will launch another program entitled “BASURAFFLE”. This program will encourage everyone to do segregation and wherein one (1) kilogram of residual waste such as any kind of plastics/thin film plastics, wrappers, metallic foils, shampoo sachets with foil, cigar palara, tetra packs, shampoo & laundry sachet, food wrappers, candy and biscuit wrappers etc shall be used in exchange of one (1) raffle ticket/entry in order to win kitchen/household equipment such as rice cooker, rice dispenser, oven toaster, blender, kettle, flat iron, electric fan etc
